Akuapim South Municipal is one of the 22 districts within the Eastern Region. Nsawam, the district capital, is located within a gap along the main highway between Accra and Kumasi and is just 23 km from the national capital.The Municipality shares boundaries to the south with Ga West Municipal and Tema Metropolis, both of which are part of Greater Accra Region. To the north-west its neighbours are Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar, Akuapim North and West Akim Municipal respectively.
