Three Internet fraudsters arrested
at Agona Swedru


Agona Swedru, Sept 2, GNA -
A team of officials from the Headquarters of the
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service
in Accra have arrested three people
at Agona Swedru for allegedly defrauding the Mother Care and Welfare Orphanage
at Kwansakrom near
Agona Swedru through the Internet.

     

 MPs worry over increasing highway robbery


Accra, June 29, GNA - Members of Parliament on Friday touched on the increasing armed robber cases, especially those committed on the highways, and said more was needed to be done to tackle the issue.

They said the security forces, especially the police service, should be well resourced to enable it to discharge they duties creditably.

Police foil attempt to send Nigerian girls to Europe for prostitution

Ghanaian police announced on Friday that they foiled an attempt by a human trafficking syndicate in Accra to send 18 Nigerian girls to Europe to work as prostitutes.

The police raid was made possible by the undercover work of a journalist who has been investigating human trafficking for more than eight months.

Six months of investigations by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) into the operations of Scancom (Ghana) Limited have uncovered one of the most sophisticated networks in international money laundering, tax evasion and balance sheet fraud.

1,135 accommodation units licensed nationwide


Accra, April 26, GNA - Mr Martin Mireku, Executive Director of the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB), on Thursday announced that 1,135 accommodation units nationwide had been given licence to operate as at the end of March 2007.

The licensing of these establishments is a yearly exercise done by the Ghana Tourist Board to ensure that operators in the hospitality industry were functioning within the set standards. Mr. Mireku, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said to enforce the set standards the board had put together a team of experts at the headquarters to check operators in the hospitality services every quarter.
