Fort Augustaborg, Teshie (Accra)
The name of the fort goes back to the Princess Louise Auguste, who was born in 1771, the daughter of King Christian VII. Of Denmark.
In contrast to the established of the same type of Danish sister forts on the Gold Coast, such as Fort Kong Steen or Fort Prinzenstein, the Fort Augusta-Borg was of smaller dimension.
Below pictures: All what of Fort Augustaborg, today remains, are ruins. The site should only be visited with local people, as it is (in our opinion) not safe to tour the area on it`s own. When taking pictures: It is strongly advised, to ask the local people, BEFORE! Otherwise you might face a quiet changing mood! Good advise, to have some small gifts with you, included for adults and children. You may buy small packs of Alomo Bitters for adults. (alcoholic drink), and for children some pens.
With promulgation of the new Danish constitution on June 5 - 1849, the decision had been made that Denmark wouldd give up and sell all of its African possessions. There were conducted negotiations with Britain and the Netherlands, and finally Fort Augustaborg was sold, in the summer of 1849, included all the Danish forts on the coast of Guinea for 10,000 British pounds sterling to the UK.
On March 30, 1850, the last Danish flag was overtaken on the Gold Coast.

The formals Danish Fort Augastaborg in Teshie, in Accra, was the last of the Gold Coast forts to be built, Fort Augastaborg was constructed in 1787. Five years later, Denmark was the first European nation to abolish the slave trade.
Although the fort was purchased by the British on the 8th of March 1850, ‘it was never occupied by them. According to the Ghana Museums and Mounuments Board, the fort "is also untraceable now" . One can only see a cannon at the site.
Well - as you see on our picture ;-) -this is not truth! The fort is quiet in rubbles, and not maintained, but still exists!
