The Joint Consultative Council (JCC) for the Oti Movement has pledged to accept any town President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo chooses as the capital of the Oti Region.

The Chiefs and people of Gonjaland in the yet to be out-doored Savanna Region have unanimously endorsed a proposal from the Overlord of the area, Yagbonwura Tutumba Boressa, to government, asking for Damongo, the West Gonja district capital, to be made administrative capital of the new region.
‘YES’ voters voted massively in support of creation of six new regions in some parts of Ghana following a referendum Thursday.
A total of 206,350 YES votes representing 99.7 per cent and 647 NO votes representing 0.3 per cent out of the total votes cast of 207,343 were recorded in the Savannah area of the Northern region. According to the Electoral Commission, a total of 346 votes were rejected. The people of the Ahafo enclave in the Brong-Ahafo Region have voted massively in support of the creation of proposed Ahafo Region.
Out of a total of 307,108 eligible voters in the area, 227,663 representing 90.4 per cent turned out to participate in the referendum, reports Graphic Online's Biiya Mukusah Ali. The former President of the republic of Ghana, Mr John Dramani Mahama has contributed a total amount of GHc 50,000 towards the creation of the proposed Savanna region from the present Northern Region.
An 80-year-old indigene of Kejebi in the Volta Region, has been arrested by the police for allegedly speaking against the creation of the proposed Oti Region.
Edmond Nyarko, was arrested on Thursday after he was reportedly heard at a popular joint in Kejebi called Counter, saying that the creation of the region was unnecessary. Togbi Sri III, Awoamefia of Anlo State, has reiterated to government to urgently reconsider the rush manner it is carrying out issues concerning the splitting up of the Volta Region.
Re-echoing the numerous calls demanding for wider consultation on the splitting of the Region, he was of the view that the current approach could potentially result in tribal conflict and engender unity and peace. |
