KENTE from ASHANTI REGION
Kente is a colorful cloth which is been hand-woven a long time in the villages of Ghana and partly Ivory Coast. Kente cloth has come to represent the very fabric of African culture; it's history, culture, religious beliefs and principals of social etiquette. |
Kente was designed originally from the people of the Bonwire aera. The small town of Bonwire is located 18 km off the Kumasi – Mampong road. At this settlement, you`ll find hundreds of Kente weavers, using Technics, as their forefathers used to weave this special cloth.
The Kente weaving Technics where some 150 years ago adopted by the Ewe people of the Volta region. Ewe kente weavers in Ghana are to be found at Wheta, Klikor, Agbozume, Denu and Keta in the southern part of the Volta Region, and in the Agotime area centered around Kpetoe and around Mafi-Kumasi in the central part of the Volta Region.
