Full History: A Portuguese fortified house, in 1500. Taken by Swedes in 1645. Swedish lodge built in 1652. Taken by Danes in 1657. Enlarged and named Christianborg after King Christian V of Denmark, in 1659.
Temporarily in Dutch hands in 1660. Site ceded to Danes by King of Accra, in 1661.
Temporarily in Portuguese hands and called S. Francis Xavier, in 1679-83. Reoccupied by Danes, in 1683. Taken by the Akwamus, in 1693. Redeemed by the Danes for £600, in 1694.

Enlarged between 1730 and 1780. Bought by Britain in 1850. Damaged by earthquake in 1862 after which it was used as a lunatic asylum. Rebuilt and used as residence of the British Governor of Gold Coast, in 1877-1957. Residence of Prime Minister of Ghana and renamed Government House, Osu, in 1957.
Became the official residence of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, First President of Ghana in 1960 and has since remained the Seat of Government. Frequently rebuilt with additions in recent years.

Erstes Haus erbaut durch die Portogiesen um 1500. 1645 erobert durch die Schweden. Umgebaut zur Loge im Jahre 1652. Erobert durch die Daenen 1657. Vergroessert und benannt nach Koenig Cristian V von Daenemark im Jahre 1659. Im Jahre 1660 zeitweilig in den Haenden der Hollaender. Der Koenig von Accra gab die Festung 1661 zuruek zu den Daenen. Danach wieder zeitweilig unter Portogiesischer Verwaltung und umbenannt in S.Francis Xavier im Jahre 1679-83. Zurueckeroberung durch die Daenen 1683. Erobert duch die Akwamus 1693. Fuer 600 £ , 1694 zuruckgekauft durch die Daenen.
Der Koenig von Accra gab die Festung 1661 zuruek zu den Daenen. Danach wieder zeitweilig unter Portogiesischer Verwaltung und umbenannt in S.Francis Xavier im Jahre 1679-83. Zurueckeroberung durch die Daenen 1683. Erobert duch die Akwamus 1693. Fuer 600 £ , 1694 zuruckgekauft durch die Daenen.
Vergroessert zwischen 1730 und 1780. Gekauft von Grossbritanien im Jahre 1850. Beschaedigt durch ein Erdbeben 1862. Danach wurde die Festung zeitweilig als "Irren - Haus" genutzt. Wieder aufgebaut, diente es dem britischen Gouvernoer der Goldkueste, von 1877-1957als Residenz. Cristianborg wurde Residenz des Ghanaischen Prime Ministers im Jahre 1957 und wurde umbenannt in Regierungshaus Osu. Ab 1960 wurde es der offizielle Sitz von Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, dem ersten Presidenten Ghanas und seit dem ist das Castle auch der Regierungssitz. Es wurde haeufig umgebaut in den vergangenen Jahren. Das Gebaeude ist nicht geoeffnet fuer die Offentlichkeit. |
