Tourism, arts could be Ghana's economic pillars – Presidential aspirant An independent presidential aspirant, Marricke Kofi Gane, has said that with the right investment, tourism and arts could be the biggest contributors to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Describing tourism and arts as major sectors, Mr Gane, also known as Kofi Ghana, told Prince Benjamin on the ‘Inspire’ segment of Class91.3FM's Class Drive (CD) that: "I love the arts, I've always said this; this has been my big thing, that if we would get the arts right and sync it with tourism, we could be making a lot of money above ground”.
The Finance Managing Consultant continued: "A lot of our GDP now comes from underground and for an economy that largely doesn't have the extensive capacity to dig underground and mine itself, it's sensibly developmental to try and expand some of those areas of the economy that are above ground. I do think that tourism and the arts are a massive combination that if gotten right could actually be the next economy for this country." In his view, Ghana has more than enough, including a great culture and history, to develop, adding that a little development is all that the country needs to boost the economy. "I mean, we're seated right in the middle of the history of the slave trade and all that and we've got artistes who are actually, by themselves, doing a lot with very little support and, so, for me, giving those things that are already evolving a little push is all we need to actually spur out our economy all by itself," he said. |
