🗼 Chemu (Breaker) Point Lighthouse – Tema

Located just northeast of Tema’s bustling harbor, the Chemu (Breaker) Point Lighthouse stands tall on a low hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Light Pattern: White flash every 7.5 seconds


This modern lighthouse features a tapered tower, likely constructed of concrete, with a lantern and gallery. Its bold black and white vertical stripes make it highly visible from afar.

⚓ Tema Lee Breakwater Lighthouse


Perched at the end of the northern breakwater in Tema, this lighthouse helps direct vessels entering the harbor.

  • Height: 15 m (49 ft)
  • Focal Plane: Approx. 17 m (56 ft)
  • Light Pattern: Green light, 5 seconds on / 5 seconds off

The structure is a round cylindrical tower painted green, replacing an older, much smaller post light that still stands nearby.

📍 Location: End of the north (lee) breakwater, Tema
🚧 Access: Site status unknown

Though smaller than others, its position makes it vital for safe navigation into Tema’s port.



🚢 Tema Main Breakwater Lighthouse


Balancing its northern counterpart, the Tema Main Breakwater Lighthouse marks the southern edge of the harbor entrance.

  • Height: 15 m (49 ft)
  • Focal Plane: Approx. 17 m (56 ft)
  • Light Pattern: Three red flashes (two short, one long) every 10 seconds

This red cylindrical tower stands at the end of the main breakwater, with the original shorter post light still visible beside it.

Together with the lee breakwater light, it forms a crucial navigation pair for maritime traffic.



⭐ Accra (Jamestown) Lighthouse


One of Ghana’s most iconic landmarks, the Jamestown Lighthouse is steeped in history and cultural significance.

  • Height: 28 m (92 ft)
  • Focal Plane: 34 m (112 ft)
  • Light Pattern: Four white flashes every 25 seconds

This stone tower, complete with lantern and gallery, is attached to a traditional keeper’s house. Its distinctive red and white horizontal bands make it instantly recognizable.

📍 Location: Jamestown, Accra – opposite the historic James Town Chief’s Palace

Beyond its maritime role, the Jamestown Lighthouse is a cultural symbol, often featured in photography, festivals, and local storytelling.
